History

The Hobart track was built in the early 1980's in its current location at Granton , by the Bridgewater Speedway Club.
Prior to that the club ran on a track at Cove Hill which is where the Bridgwater Shopping Centre now resides.

When first built it was one of the most state of the art tracks at the time. It had exceptional lighting which was deisgned for TV filming and the lighting still remains in place today along with the  original grandstands. In recent years the safety catchment fencing has been upgraded to meet national safety standards.

Initially operated by the Bridgewater Speedway Club the track has undergone only a few changes at the helm and is now operated by Latrobe Speedway Pty Ltd via an eight member board which also operates the Bendigo Bank Arena at Latrobe.

The venue is famous for hosting the Tasmanian Grand National in January ever year which is actually the longest running super sedan race in Australia.
